Having fled the destruction of his people, and shipwrecked on an island, our hero must rebuild, survive, and thrive. An isometric survival RPG without the survival. Collect resources and craft items and weapons. Build a settlement on your island. Hunt in the darkest forests, or slay the undead in the cursed crypts. Explore, claim and restore the blighted islands and become a Jarl worthy of the sagas.

Taking a look at the Second Floor of the Final mission in Alone - where our hero overloads a dangerous machine and fights the waves of goblins defending it.

Salutations,

So this week I finished off the Second Floor. So let's take a detailed look.

When you enter the Second Floor, it looks quiet. There are a number of enslaved tribespeople in areas which are locked away, the main door to continue is closed, and there's an interesting looking machine in the middle.

There are some bars nearby, behind which is a prisoner who can give you a bit of a background on what's going on, and it's nothing good.

So, you have to destroy the machine, so how do we do that? By overloading it - and you'll need to perform it more than once to fully destroy it.

Doing so has two effects. Firstly, it summons a wave of goblins to defend the machine.

The second effect is the glowy purple discharge you can see in the screenshot above. If you stand too close to it after a while...

These damaging AoE attacks get more frequent and more violent as you overload the machine further. On the positive side, they also hurt your enemies, and you have a few seconds warning before the thunder strikes, so you can be strategic with it.

With every attempt to overload, you get a wave of enemies to fight, and then after you've overloaded it enough...

And with the doors open, we can advance to the next level, the final boss fight - or have a heartfelt chat with one of the tribesfolk.

And that's it for this week. Before the obvious next step of the final boss fight, I plan on introducing more varied goblin enemies to make the challenge more interesting.

Til then
